January 2019

LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Hello PBTC members,

Welcome to the New Year!  I’d like to start off this first message by extending my sincerest gratitude to outgoing board members David Fogel, Linda Braun-Leibowitz, and Bob Miller for their four dedicated years to the PBTC board - they will be missed!

Now, on to the first business of the year for the new 2019 Board of Directors. New officers have been elected with the following positions filled:

  • President: Mihajlo Tomic
  • Vice President: Panto Mijatovic
  • Treasurer: Scott Karafin
  • Secretary: Phil Tan
Second, this is a reminder that the Australian Open Mixer, weather permitting, will take place this Friday, January 18 starting at 6:30 PM.  I will be at the mixer, and I hope to see you there.

Also, I’d like to remind all our members the importance of checking in to the clubhouse before using the courts.  As part of our club standing rules, it’s the responsibility of members to use the sign-up board and note the court and start time of play.  Please make sure you notify the clubhouse attendant of any guests with you and free guest passes you intend on redeeming.  Should you need any help, feel free to reach out to club staff. As always, please remember to be courteous to all members and staff, we are all responsible for creating a positive tennis playing community.  All players have a right to their minimum one hour of court time.  The club makes every effort to create the best playing atmosphere, and this includes drying of courts if staff is available to do so.  At times when we cannot address such matters, members are within their right to sweep or dry the courts for their enjoyment.  They will not be penalized for the time taken to do so and their hour of play starts when the first ball is hit.

At our first board meeting of the year we passed a motion to address and fix the lighting issues we are having on Courts 1, 2 and 3.  Additionally, Steve, our club manager, is actively working to bring an electrician on site to address the lights on Courts 7 and 8.  We will keep you posted of our progress.

We look forward to addressing more club business in the months ahead, and the board invites all members to join us for our next board meeting, 6:15 PM, February 5, at the clubhouse. We've set aside 15 minutes near the beginning of the meeting for members to voice concerns, share ideas, and ask questions.

I’m looking forward to the year ahead – see you on the courts!

TREASURER'S UPDATE 2019 Membership Renewals & Budget

The Board is so glad to see a good renewal rate for PBTC 2019 Membership. Thank you to all members who renewed on a timely basis. Based on this renewal rate, and our revenue projections for 2019, we are moving forward with the first phase of our 2019 plans for further facilities expenditures. At our board meeting this week, we discussed our 2019 budget and our plans to continue to provide well lighted and resurfaced courts in a nice setting.  If anyone would like to discuss projected revenue and/or expenditures, please contact me directly as your input is always welcome and encouraged.

To our current 2019 members, please encourage those you know of who have not renewed to renew their membership and continue to be part of our 2019 PBTC community. To those who have not renewed, if there is anything we can do to assist in facilitating your renewal, please contact Steve or myself (or any board member) directly. We understand that life at times causes detours, and we want you back with us to enjoy being part of our Club in 2019.

See you at the courts,

Scott Karafin
