Hi PBTC Members,

We have a quick update on developments at the courts for you following our Board of Directors meeting this month. First, a big thank you to Mihajlo, Phil, and Eric for their efforts to clear the bricks around the base of our tree in preparation for making the ground surrounding it walkable. The Board approved proceeding with tree lacing, leveling the roots, and placing decomposed granite around the base of the tree. We are soliciting proposals for the work now and anticipate moving ahead with these activities promptly. We're considering different alternatives for replacing the engraved tiles on the club grounds and will have more on that once the tree project is complete.

Next, please mark your calendars for April 6-8, when our big annual Pacific Beach Open Tennis Tournament will be held. All the courts will be used for this event. We had a record number of entrants last year and expect a strong field of entrants again this time. The Board approved a prize money schedule for the open singles and open doubles draws, with prize money scaling based on the number of entrants. Depending on the draw, the open singles winners could earn up to $500 in prize money. With thanks to generous donations from Linda Braun-Leibowitz and Bob Miller, the open doubles winners will receive $100 each, with the runners-up receiving $50 each. Please consider entering the tournament in your age group, NTRP rating, or open level, and if you can't enter, come by and root on our club members.

The Board also approved a new flex league starting April 9 and running through June 15. If you participated in the recent winter league, you're entered automatically. If you didn't and would like to participate, please email me (david_fogel_nsi@yahoo.com) or Steve Adamson (steve@pbtennis.com) and let us know.

There's no immediate update on the city's efforts to redesign the De Anza Cove area. Phil Tan (board member) remains on top of the city's schedule for future events and will keep us up to date on opportunities to participate in ensuring that tennis remains in Pacific Beach in the future.

Finally, mark your calendar for November 10, 2018, when we'll be holding our annual club Turkey Tournament! We'll have more information on the format as we get to the summer.

As always, if you have any questions or suggestions for improving our club, please feel free to email me or call me anytime at (858) 349-0848.
